FUN IDEA FOR DECEMBER 2018 by  huflixPrime Editors
NEIGHBORHOOD TREE TOASTING PARTY
If you can read this…jingle bells, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg…

Happy silly season everyone! We hope you enjoyed our “Best Stuffing Ever” recipe last month.  If you didn’t get a chance to, you could always try that stuffing with one of your upcoming holiday meals, no need to worry about losing those holiday pounds until January any how!

So, here we are in “Christmas” month. We like to represent everyone and all beliefs during the holiday season, we don’t want anyone to feel left out.  So, we asked our crack research team (Fred) if the “Christmas” tree is really a religious symbol. Fred tells us that it’s debatable. (Fred, so you know, is actually a seagull…come on, you didn’t really think we could afford a research team? Fred works for french fries).

If you really want to get into it, go work through it with our friends over on Wikipedia.  Any way, this month’s “Fun Idea” is something you can all do together, and it can involve booze! So there’s that (that should make at least a few of you happy).
To get started, we recommend organizing your neighbors a few weeks ahead of time. (Herding cats you say? Nonsense!)  The concept of a tree toasting is simple:  if you live on a friendly street, or in a friendly apartment building or condo complex, you can do this.  Think of it as a “pub crawl” but rather than going to bars, you’re going to each others home’s. In each house, you stay for roughly 15 to 20 minutes, you view the owners Christmas tree, make a toast or sing a carol, snack on some cookies or hors d’oeuvres, then you move on to the next house and enjoy some latkes!  The nice thing is, it’s fun for the kids too, at the last house, it’s nice if you can convince one of your more “Jovial” neighbors to dress up as Santa Claus and hand out some inexpensive gifts to the kids (see the dollar shelf at Target!).  So let’s review, there’s really only two steps:

  1. Plan your “Holiday Toasting Party” i.e. where and when.  For example: “Main Street Tree Toasting!” Please join us for a toast of trees on Friday December 21st.  Suggested time, 6:30PM to 10PM.  Please indicate if your house will be open for toasting.  Once you have a count of how many neighbors will be opening their homes to a tree toast, plan a logical schedule and route from home to home, i.e. “6:30PM to 6:50PM The Smiths, 27 Main Street, 6:50PM to 7:10PM The Jones, 32 Main Street, etc. if it’s a street, start at one end, and work your way down to the other end, for an apartment building, maybe start at the top floor and work down…you get the idea.
  2. Designate an M.C. (Master of Ceremonies) whose job will be to keep the party moving and on schedule, with this sort of party, people can lose track of time, you’re enjoying a cocktail or tasty beverage at each stop, or even along the way, it’s easy to get caught up in conversation and fall behind.  Give the M.C. a stop watch and a bull horn (or whistle), have them set a timer at each house and announce that it’s time to move on to the next house as soon as the time is up.

Suggestions:
  • At the first house, feed the kids! If you start early, say 6PM, make it a pizza party and feed all the kids, chicken nuggets and fries are good too, keep it simple, get them fed before you start marching from home to home.
  • Schedule the party for a Friday night! If you’re drinking cocktails, sometimes it’s nice to have a special cocktail at each house, we’re sure everyone will have something to serve, egg nog at Bob’s house, spiked hot chocolate at Judy’s place, etc. Throwing your party on a Friday night gives you Saturday morning to recover.

As always, we’ve got some more great suggestions for you on our “Holiday Bonanza Page!” Click that “Holiday Button” below for all your holiday party needs! Also, we love the holidays so much, we're giving you a BONUS FUN IDEA, check out HERE.
