MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR APRIL 2023
Happy Spring! Yeah we're late again. Sorry. Obviously we're playing catch-up here. We really will make an effort to get our ducks in a row soon. For now please enjoy these four random film suggestions for April.

"The Bourne Identity" (2002 Universal Pictures) Matt Damon, Franka Potente, Chris Cooper, Clive Owen, Brian Cox, Julia Stiles, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Gabriel Man. Available on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.

This is the first in the film franchise based on the character “Jason Bourne” created by Robert Ludlum in his 1980 novel of the same name. Ludlum wrote two more books featuring Jason Bourne, “The Bourne Supremacy” (1986) and “The Bourne Ultimatum” (1990.) Both subsequent novels are the basis for the second and third films in the original franchise. So, if you’re a fan of action and suspense, you’ll love these films, although we encourage you to read the books. Matt Damon is excellent in the role of Jason Bourne.

"The Hangover" (2009 Warner Bros.) Bradley Cooper, Ed Harris, Zach Galifianakis, Justing Bartha, Sasha Barrese, Heather Graham, Jeffrey Tambor, Rachael Harris, Ken Jeong, Mike Epps, and Mike Tyson. Available on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. Also currently available on Netflix.

This is the first of a fantastic three-film comedy franchise. If you’ve ever been a groomsman at a wedding party, you’ll enjoy this film. We love all three films in the franchise, but as is true with most trilogies, the first is absolutely the best (in our opinion.)

"How to Train Your Dragon" (2010 DreamWorks Animation) Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, America Ferrera, Craig Ferguson, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, TJ Miller, Kristen Wiig, Robin Atkin Downes, David Tennant. Available on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. Also currently available on Netflix.

There are many great animated films to choose from — and the hits keep coming. DreamWorks How to Train Your Dragon is our personal favorite. The first of a great trilogy, this film will make you wish you had a pet Dragon! Featuring great animation and a fantastic story filled with comedy, action, and drama, featuring many familiar voices, How to Train Your Dragon will fully engage you. If you’ve never seen this modern classic, check it out today!

"A Knight's Tale" (Year Studio) Heath Ledger, Rufus Sewell, Shannyn Sossamon, Paul Bettany, Laura Fraser, Mark Addy, Alan Tidy, Bérénice Bejo, James Purefoy, Christopher Czaenove. Available on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. Also currently available on Netflix.

You don’t get a lot of films featuring “Jousting,” so if that’s your thing, A Knight’s Tale is for you! This 2001 hit is arguably one of the best films of Heath Ledger’s unfortunately short career. Featuring a top-notch cast of familiar faces and an excellent plot with just the right mix of comedy, action, and drama, “A Knight’s Tale” is a film the whole family can enjoy. If you’ve never seen it, put it on your list today! You’ll thank us later.

"The Internship" (2013 Twentieth Century Fox) Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Rose Byrne, Aasif Mandvi, Max Minghella, Josh Brener, Dylan O’Brien, Tina Sircar, Tobit Raphael, Josh Gad. Available on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. Also currently available on Netflix.

This fun sleeper hit from 2013 brings Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson together again in an Abbot and Costello-Esq fashion. This modern-day buddy comedy is an entertaining film highlighting the generational turmoil of the digital age. Written by Vince Vaughn and Jared Stern and directed by Shawn Levy (Stranger Things, This Is Where I Leave You), The Internship will make you smile.

"Kingpin" (1996 Rysher Entertainment) Woody Harrelson, Randy Quaid, Vanessa Angel, Bill Murray, Chris Elliott, Lin Shane. Available on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.

A Farrelly Brothers classic! Kingpin is a hilarious and sometimes disturbing bowling comedy. You rarely get to see a good bowling comedy, so take our advice and enjoy this one! Trust us; you’ll laugh out loud.

"Animal House" (1978 Universal Pictures) Tom Hulce, Tim Matheson, Peter Riegert, John Belushi, Mark Metcalf, Kevin Bacon, James Daughton, Martha Smith, Karen Allen, Bruce McGill, John Vernon, Donald Sutherland, Stephen Furst. Written by Harold Ramis and directed by John Landis, this modern classic comedy is a surf stopper whenever found on cable TV! They’d never be able to make this film in today’s world, so enjoy it, and remember that it is from a different time.

Written and directed by Tom Hanks (His writing and directorial debut), That Thing You Do is a hidden gem from 1996: great story and fantastic music. Are you looking for a fun movie for the whole family? That Thing you do, is it. Enjoy!

MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FEBRUARY 2023
Happy February! This month we thought we'd give you some 80s and 90s nostalgia. A nice selection of four films from the 80s and 90s which is sure to take you back. Enjoy!

"Jerry Maguire" (1996) Actors. Available on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. Also currently available on Netflix.

Written, directed, and produced by Cameron Crow (Almost Famous, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Vanilla Sky), Jerry Maguire is based on the real-life experience of the professional sports agent Leigh Steinberg. Earning two Oscar nominations and one win for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Cuba Gooding Jr. in 1996. Jerry Maguire is one of the greatest feel-good films of the past century; if you’re a youngster and you’ve never seen Jerry Maguire, stop what you are doing and watch it immediately!

"Road House" (1989 ) Actors. Available on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV Also currently available on Netflix.

Road House is a popular “Surf Stopper” on cable TV. Good news, you don’t have to surf to find it anymore; it’s currently available on Netflix! Probably the last great good guys vs. bad guys gratuitous violence film of the 1980s. Think of it like an old western if it took place in the late 80s. Completely implausible but a total guilty pleasure of a film.

"Empire Records" (1995) Actors. Available on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. Also currently available on Hulu.

One of the last great “Teen-Angst” films of the 1990s, “Empire Records” was a sleeper hit in 1995. If you were born after 1995, chances are you may have never been to a record store. On the other hand, if you were born in the 70s or 80s, working in a record store may have been your dream job in your teens. Empire Records is a whacky dram-edy with a great cast. So if you’re looking for some 90s nostalgia, check it out.

"Top Gun" (1986 ) Actors. Available on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. Also currently available on Netflix.

Perhaps you’re a newbie who has never seen the first one? If you want to know Maverick’s back story, here it is. Learn about Goose, Iceman, and where Maverick’s tower buzz shenanigans originated. If you’re in your early 50s, watch for that 1980s flashback. Enjoy!

Happy New Year! Yeah, we're late again. Sorry. We hoped to start the year off right and get back on a regular schedule. Sadly we're still not quite back to normal yet. But we're getting there! For fans of the Masterpiece series, this second feature film was a pleasant surprise in late 2022. This second Downton Abby feature film takes place in 1928, finding many life changes for the main characters. If you're a fan and haven't yet seen "Downton Abby: A New Era," we don't want to give you any spoilers. We'll say we liked it.

"THE BURBS" (1989 Imagine Entertainment) Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Bruce Dern, Rick Ducommun, Corey Feldman, Wendy Schaal, Henry Gibson, Theodore Gottlieb, Courtney Gains. Available on Amazon Prime Video. Also currently available on Netflix.

We love "The Burbs." We consider this film to be a "Surf Stopper!" (If you are "channel surfing" and find it, stop surfing and watch!) Featuring a nearly all-star cast, this comedy about the antics of crazy neighbors will have you laughing out loud from start to finish. So trust us, if you've never seen The Burbs, check it out immediately!

"Wedding Crashers" (2005 Nine Line Cinema) Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, Isla Fisher, Christopher Walken, Bradley Cooper, Jane Seymour, Ellen Albertini Dow, Keir O’Donnell. Available on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. Also currently available on Netflix.

Featuring a nearly all-star cast, Wedding Crashers can be moved into the "Modern Classics" category. But it's a rom-com for ages, really. Have you ever wanted to crash a wedding? Or perhaps you already have? Wedding Crashers can provide you with some great tips if you ever choose to risk it.

The Family is a fantastic hidden gem from 2013 and is the perfect blend of action and comedy. A mob family on the lamb hiding out in France. You couldn't ask for a better comedy setup—great performances from Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro, and Tommy Lee Jones.
