“Yesterday" (2019 Universal Pictures) Himesh Patel, Lily James, Joel Fry, Kate McKinnin, Ed Sheehan, Sara Lancashire, Justin Edwards, Directed by Danny Boyle based on a story by Jack Brath and Richard Curtis. Available on Amazon Prime Video, and Apple iTunes Store. Also currently available on HBO GO/NOW.
  • Many music fans may shy away from this film as they feel it's blasphemy to mess with the music of the greatest band of all time. We're here to tell you, don't be afraid. "Yesterday" is a beautiful film that will make you appreciate the music of the Beatles more than ever! The film imagines a world in which everyone, save a select handful of people, forgets the existence of The Beatles and their music. Ed Sheeran gives an excellent cameo appearance as himself. The thing that sells it for us is a very touching segment towards the end of the film. We won't spoil it; you'll have to watch for yourself. Trust us on this; you'll be glad you did.

“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" (2019 Columbia Pictures) Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Emile Hirsch, Julia Butters, Margaret Qualley, Al Pacino, Kurt Russell and many more. Available on Amazon Prime Video, and Apple iTunes Store. Also currently available on STARZ.
  • Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt are two of the greatest actors of their generation. We've always felt that Brad Pitt's talent was hugely underrated, not anymore; he won an Oscar for "Best Actor in a Supporting Role" for his performance in this film. We also feel that "Once upon a time in Hollywood" is Quentin Tarantino's best work to date. If you're a millennial and you've never seen a Tarantino film before, "Once upon a time in Hollywood" is an excellent choice to start

“1917" (2019 DreamWorks) Dean-Charles Chapman, George MacKay, Daniel Mays, Colin Firth Claire Duburcq, Benedict Cumberbatch, Richard Madden. Available on Amazon Prime Video, and Apple iTunes Store.
  • This cinematographic masterpiece is directed and co-written by Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Jarhead, Skyfall,) the plot is based partly on a story told to Mendes by his grandfather. "1917," tells the tale of two British soldiers assigned the mission of delivering an urgent message to call off an attack and save the lives of over one thousand British troops. Their journey across "no man's land" and behind enemy lines was filmed in two long takes, which gives the appearance of a continuous shot from start to finish. Cinematographer Rodger Deakins won his second Oscar for "Best Achievement in Cinematography" for his work on this film. If you haven't seen "1917" yet, add it to your list today!

“Joker" (2019 Warner Bros.) Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Lances Conroy, Brett Cullen. Available on Amazon Prime Video, and Apple iTunes Store.
  • We grew up reading the Dark Knight comic books. If you're not a fan of the Batman comic books and have only seen the various films, what you should know is that the story of "The Joker" is actually a tragedy. We have seen no other portrayal of the Joker's character that has captured that tragedy until now. This film makes minimal reference to the Batman character. Instead, it points out a view from the other side, an interesting vision of "Thomas Wayne" (Bruce Wayne's father.) We knew Joaquin Phoenix would win the Oscar as soon as we finished watching this film. "Joker" is brutal and violent at times, and for some, it may be hard to watch. Still, it's a brilliant film which, for true Dark Knight fans, should not be missed.
