INTERNATIONAL TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY Yes, it’s really a thing! No, we’re not kidding! "International Talk Like a Pirate Day" (ITLAPD) has been in existence since 2002 (1995, actually). If you don’t believe us, you can check “Wikipedia” (those people are never wrong!). Today we’re taking some time out of our busy schedule to pay homage to “Cap'n Slappy” and “Ol' Chumbucket” themselves by giving you five great movie recommendations for the day. Pirate movies were once a staple in Hollywood. Back in the 1940’s and 1950’s they were abundant, but then something happened on the high seas – we don’t know why, but the “Pirate” movie went out of fashion. Until about 2003, when Johnny Depp first put his hair in a weave, donned the tri-corner hat and gave us “Captain Jack Sparrow”. Five films to date, quiet the franchise! All of them worth the watch too, but the first one is still the best, so that’s what you’re getting today. (Or should we say: "That's what ye be having today...arrrrgggg!") |
