Albert Finney with Conchata Ferrell in "Erin Brokovich" (2000 Universal Pictures)
ALBERT FINNEY
Albert Finney, (May 9, 1936 — February 7, 2019)
A five time Oscar Nominee, Albert Finney was loved for his roles in great films such as "Tom Jones", "Under the Volcano" and "The Dresser" Finney was a master of his craft.  He will be missed.

“Erin Brokovich” (2000 Universal Pictures) Julia Roberts, Albert Finney, Conchata Ferrell, David Brisbin, Dawn Didawick, Aaron Eckhart. Available on Amazon Prime Video  or   Apple iTunes Store.  Also currently available on  Starz.
  • Based on the true story of Erin Brockovich, a single mother and scrappy legal clerk who worked to bring litigation against Pacific Gas and Electric, in a case which ended in a historic settlement for a direct-action lawsuit this award-winning film features Albert Finney at his best.  Earning the Best Actress in a Leading Role Oscar nod for Julia Roberts, and an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Albert Finney, as well as a Best Picture Oscar nomination, “Erin Brockovich” is a must-see film!

“Scrooge” (1970 Cinema Center Films) Albert Finney, David Collings, Edith Evans, Kenneth More, Laurence Naismith, Michael Medwin. Available on Amazon Prime Video.
  • This is a musical version of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.”  Albert Finney has a great time playing a brilliant Scrooge, our favorite actually (Sorry Alastair Sim, we like you too.) The ghostly effects are a bit dated by today’s standards, yet the story remains compelling, and the musical twist adds an extra dash of fun.  You’ll be singing “Thank you very much” for days afterward.  Watch this with the family around the Holidays.

“Big Fish” (2003 Columbia Pictures) Billy Crudup, Albert Finney, Jessica Lange, Helena Bonham Carter, Hailey Anne Nelson, Ewan McGregor, Steve Buscemi,  Danny DeVito, Alison Lohman, Marion Cotillard, and Robert Guillaume. Available on Amazon Prime Video or Apple iTunes Store.  Also currently available on HBO GO/NOW.
  • Directed by Tim Burton, nominated for one Oscar and five Golden Globes, “Big Fish” is, in our opinion, Tim Burton’s finest and most sophisticated work.  A magical film capturing a father explaining his mysterious life to his skeptical son through fantastic metaphorical stories. The underlying story is the tale of how an estranged son comes to peace and understanding with his father at the end of his life’s journey. We can’t watch this film without getting tears in our eyes at the end.  If you’ve not seen “Big Fish” treat yourself to it immediately, you’ll be glad you did.

“Two for the Road” (1967 Stanley Donen Films) Audrey Hepburn, Albert Finney, Eleanor Bron, William Daniels, Gabrielle Middleton, Claude Dauphin. Available on Amazon Prime Video or Apple iTunes Store.
  • This may very well be the film that inspired the “back-story” genre of modern television.  Long before the juxtaposition of past and present aspects of a story were featured in shows like “Lost” or “Orange is the New Black”, this 1967 story explored the high and low points of the 10 year marriage of Mark and Joanna Wallace (Albert Finney, and Audrey Hepburn) during a trip through the South of France.  Receiving an Oscar nomination for “Best Writing, Story and Screenplay - Written Directly for the Screen” and a Golden Globe nomination for "Best Actress - Comedy or Musical" for Hepburn, “Two for the Road” is a classic that should not be overlooked.
